TUCSON, AZ (February 28, 2017)
– Intermountain Centers today announced that the Tucson Conquistadores will donate $12,500.00 to purchase new PE equipment for the students at its Intermountain Academy. Intermountain Centers' Intermountain Academy offers the greater Tucson community a positive teaching environment for children with autism (grades K-12) – a school that builds on each individual child’s strengths and interests.
In January 2016, Intermountain Academy scored in the top 20 percent of all schools internationally, including typical schools. This rating considered teaching and learning impact, leadership capacity and resource utilization.
Since its inception in 1962, the Tucson Conquistadores civic group has raised $32 million for young athletes. The group of 206 members represents a cross-section of the Tucson community. Professional golf has been the primary source of the Conquistadores' success. "Bringing a world-class golf event to Tucson is the foundation of our fundraising efforts," said board president Joe Schifano. "The community and our kids win."
The Conquistadores currently sponsor the Tucson Conquistadores Classic, an Official PGA TOUR Champions Tour event set for March 15-19 at Omni Tucson National Resorts. Proceeds benefit hundreds of nonprofit youth teams, events and sports organizations throughout Southern Arizona.
About the check presentation, Intermountain Centers’ president and CEO, Rose Lopez, said, "This generous gift from the Tucson Conquistadores will play an important part in our curriculum and the advancement of our students; Phys Ed. plays a vital role in socialization and team-building. We look forward to a long-term relationship with this group of professionals who have become a philanthropic icon."
