Arizona Oncology Welcomes Two New Breast Cancer Specialists to Tucson
Rebecca Klein Viscusi, MD and Aisha Ahmed, MD join Arizona Oncology's Craycroft office

Tucson, Arizona (January 21, 2020)  Arizona Oncology (AO), a leading provider of comprehensive cancer care in the Southwest, today announced the addition of a breast surgical oncologist and a medical oncologist to their east-side Craycroft practice in Tucson. Breast surgical oncologist Rebecca Klein Viscusi, MD and medical oncologist and hematologist Aisha Ahmed, MD, bring extensive experience and training in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer to Arizona Oncology, expanding the practice’s breast cancer specialist team.

The American Cancer Society estimates approximately 5,630 women in Arizona will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. AO’s breast cancer specialists—including medical, radiation, and breast surgical oncologists, a dedicated nurse navigator for breast cancer patients, plus genetic risk evaluation specialists—can now serve more patients throughout Pima County.

Rebecca Viscusi, MD, Breast Surgical Oncologist
Practicing medicine in Tucson since 2005, Dr. Rebecca Viscusi is a highly skilled breast surgical oncologist who specializes in advanced surgical techniques and the care of women diagnosed with breast cancer and at high risk for breast cancer development.

“It's inspiring to be able to offer cancer patients innovative, evidence-based treatments and personalized cancer care in a comfortable setting outside of a hospital,” said Dr. Viscusi. “I’m honored to join this team of highly regarded physicians devoted to helping cancer patients thrive.”

Aisha Ahmed, MD, Medical Oncologist
Dr. Aisha Ahmed has been in practice for more than 10 years, treating cancer patients, teaching, and participating as a clinical investigator for clinical trials. She treats and evaluates all cancer types and has extensive experience and expertise in treating breast cancer.

“The goal is to help cancer patients achieve their best possible outcome,” said Dr. Ahmed. “Arizona Oncology provides the means to reach that goal, utilizing multidisciplinary case collaboration, cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials, and personalized, holistic care for patients. I’m looking forward to being part of such a multifaceted and committed team of specialists in the fight against cancer.”

Both Dr. Viscusi and Dr. Ahmed will work with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and genetics and research specialists to develop comprehensive, personalized treatment plans for cancer patients based on the latest cancer research. A nurse navigator on the breast cancer specialist team—a registered nurse who specializes in oncology—will guide and support breast cancer patients as they navigate through their full sequence of care from diagnosis through treatment.

“We’re excited to welcome two incredibly skilled, dedicated, and compassionate breast cancer specialists to our multidisciplinary team in Tucson,” said Michele Boyce Ley, MD, a breast surgical oncologist at Arizona Oncology. “The addition of Dr. Viscusi and Dr. Ahmed to our practice will allow us to continue to deliver timely, focused care to current and newly diagnosed patients throughout Tucson.”

Drs. Viscusi and Ahmed are joining a team of more than 75 highly skilled physicians at Arizona Oncology, a leading oncology group in the region with seven locations throughout Tucson and Green Valley. The practice offers specialized physician expertise in all types of cancers, and a full spectrum of integrated advanced cancer care services, including genetic risk assessment, individualized treatment plans, comprehensive support programs, and long-term survivorship care plans. Arizona Oncology also offers access to various clinical trials through its affiliation with The US Oncology Network and US Oncology Research. The addition of Drs. Viscusi and Ahmed to Arizona Oncology’s practice will broaden this expertise, adding depth to the practice’s knowledge base, patient care model, and existing breast cancer specialist team.
