Tucson, Ariz. (Feb. 5, 2019) – The Greater Tucson Leadership (GTL) Class of 2019 today named the Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) as the beneficiary of its class project. The project, which will commence immediately with a May completion date, entails the buildout and supply of a hygiene pantry for low-income students and families throughout Tucson Unified School District (TUSD).

“We are really excited about this opportunity,” said GTL class member and project leader Robyn Lambert, from ON Media. “It is an honor to partner with EEF and to work together to help provide basic needs to children in our community. We all come from different backgrounds but have a vested interest in making Tucson a better place for future generations.”

Many TUSD students’ academic success is hindered by a lack of access to hygiene supplies. EEF, whose mission is to provide resources to expand and enrich student learning, is working to change that.

“We are so proud to be working with GTL on our Hygiene Pantry,” said Leslie Edwards, executive director of EEF. “We look forward to reducing barriers to learning so thousands of TUSD students have more opportunities to be successful. At the same time, we will be reducing the amount educators are currently spending out of their own pockets to assist these children. This is all very exciting!”

Improved access to hygiene supplies is expected to decrease health-related issues and lead to increased attendance and a greater likelihood of achieving high school graduation.

Executive Director of Greater Tucson Leadership Kasey Hill said this project epitomizes the goals of the program. “Leadership is about identifying a need and motivating our community to take action,” she said. “This class selected a project that will have a lasting impact on the students in our local school system, improving their educational experience and their quality of life. I encourage our community members to donate goods, services or money to support this initiative.”

GTL is accepting donations of the following full-sized items: body wash; bar soap; hand soap; hair care supplies like shampoo, conditioner, brushes and specialty products for coarse or ethnic hair; dental care products; feminine products and supplies such as deodorant, laundry detergent, lotion and toilet paper.
