Virtual and in-person programs offer the Museum experience during closure

Tucson, AZ (March 3, 2021) – Children’s Museum Tucson | Oro Valley’s focus on serving the community has not waned over the past year while the Museum was closed. Two new public programs give families an opportunity to enjoy the creativity, fun and learning offered by the Museum either at home or in the courtyard of the Downtown Museum, 200 S. Sixth Ave.

The Museum is teaming up with local experts to offer virtual classes that work for the whole family. Explore a new hobby. Discover your talent for painting. Learn to cook. That’s what Studio Spark is all about. The family-friendly virtual classes are on the second Saturday of each month. Times and costs vary.

On March 13, families can learn the art of cookie decorating with the executive pastry chef from Prep & Pastry. The $20 ticket price includes the Zoom video link and a kit with 6 cookies, icing and decorations. On April 10, Red Herring Puppets helps kids craft their own shadow puppet show using a supplied kit full of art supplies. Studio Spark is a great way to help support the Museum. Proceeds from each class will help support the Museum’s free virtual programming, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to play, learn and discover! Details and registration can be found at

For a socially distant in-person program, families can head to the courtyard from 5:30-7 pm on the fourth Saturday of each month for Make it! Workshops. With the creativity of our indoor MakerSpace
outdoors kids get the chance to explore tools, design, build and create projects from their wildest imagination, and construct freely in facilitated kid-centric maker workshops. Adults learn right alongside the kids, raising their awareness of how to encourage open- ended creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Sustainability meets creativity! Space is limited with tables set up in the courtyard to accommodate a family or small social group. For more information on Make it! Workshops visit Make it! Workshop tickets are $15 each, buy one get one free, and include all project supplies. The program is generously supported by Arizona Milk Producers/Arizona Dairy Council, Roche, and Southwest Gas.

The Children’s Museum Tucson and the Children’s Museum Oro Valley remain closed to public visits. We continue to monitor the Covid-19 progress indicators released by the Pima County Health Department and we look forward to welcoming the community back to the Children’s Museum Tucson|Oro Valley as soon as it is prudent to do so.
