In today’s classrooms, technology is as essential as textbooks. As a mother of students who attend school locally, I am personally invested in ensuring schools, educators, and students have the technology they need to succeed. Yet, for many schools in Southern Arizona, securing reliable connectivity and staying ahead of rapid technological advancements remains a challenge. From limited IT resources to the growing threat of cyberattacks, school districts face a complex digital landscape that demands strong partnerships with leaders in communications and technology.

The need for connectivity extends beyond the classroom. The digital divide remains a pressing issue, particularly in rural communities where access to high-speed internet at home can determine a student’s ability to study, complete homework assignments, and prepare college applications.  While federal initiatives, such as Arizona’s nearly $1 billion allocation from the Broadband Equity Access and Development Program, are expanding broadband infrastructure, private investment remains a critical piece of the puzzle.

That’s where partnerships with technology providers, like Cox, come in. These collaborations bring private investment in infrastructure and the strategic planning schools need to stay ahead. By working hand in hand with school districts, Cox Business helps schools enhance cybersecurity and integrate new digital tools. Students can stay connected on the go thanks to partnerships like ours with Pima County Library offering free Wi-Fi hotspots.

Beyond connectivity, fostering digital equity means equipping families with affordable internet solutions and providing educators with tools to support student success. Programs like Connect2Compete and Connect Assist have played a pivotal role in closing this gap, making it easier for students in underserved communities to access essential digital resources. Additionally, Cox Innovation Labs—across Southern Arizona—serve as hubs for not only students but also seniors, reinforcing the idea that digital access benefits entire communities.

As technology evolves, partnerships between school districts and the private sector must deepen. Investing in digital infrastructure isn’t just about keeping up with innovations, it’s about ensuring every student, regardless of location or background, has the tools they need to succeed in an evolving digital world.

By fostering these relationships, we can ensure that Southern Arizona’s students are not just participants in the digital revolution but leaders in it.
